This position is responsible for monitoring operations of a high capacity seed receiving /handling and finished product loading /shipping operation to ensure overall goals are meet and the facility operates in a safe and efficient manner by managing the mechanical assets, human resources, as well as coordinating and communicating with the Plant Manager, sales, logistics, production team members and local customers/suppliers. This role supervises production staff in their assigned areas to include inbound receiving and grading of seed, segregating and assigning to storage bins according to grade specification and seed type to avoid cross contamination and loading out of finished oil and meal according to customer specifications and logistical requirements.
• Coordinates and supervises rail and truck unloading operations and personnel during seed receiving and product load out operations.
o Maintain a clean and safe plant. Provide an injury-free work environment for employees, staff, contractors, visitors through engagement, JHAs, training programs, good manufacturing practices, LDC standards, and proactive elimination of exposures. Continually improve safety record by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes. Maintain and improve housekeeping in all areas.
o Initiate plans and processes which minimize seed receiving, meal and oil load out costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital. Assure attainment of business objectives and productions schedules while ensuring product standards that will exceed our customers’ expectations.
o Establish group and individual accountabilities throughout all the crews on the Material Handler area for safety leadership, problem solving and cost reduction.
o Manage spending against budget and in relation to changes in seed receiving and load out volume.
o Maintain individual skills keeping up to date with latest production and production management concepts.
o Ensure that the product being shipped meets and our customers’ standards, policies and practices through the proper implementation and maintenance of all aspects of quality systems such as, DNA, HACCP, GMP and Food Safety in general.
o Properly utilize resources. Foster a well-trained and motivated staff. Responsible for establishing all shift production schedules. Select and train new MH employees.
o Participates on hiring process and conduct MH Shift Leaders performance reviews.
o Participates in annual business planning and budgeting of the plant.
o It is expected that the person in this position will spend up to 50 percent of their time in the work areas engaging employees, overseeing seed receiving and Load out areas and troubleshooting. The remainder of their time is spent in an office performing administrative and planning functions. Properly utilize resources. Foster a well-trained and motivated staff. Responsible for establishing all shift production schedules. Select and train new MH employees.
o Coordinates and leads production startups, shutdowns and changeovers
o Coordinates railcar movement in and out of railcars with railroad CN & CP personnel.
o Continually researches and refines unloading and loading operations to ensure the best possible usage of assets; maintains a good line of communication with Shift Leaders, MH operators and all areas of the plant.
o Coordinate and lead mid-sized projects
• Safety/Maintenance Functions
o Assures that Material Handler employees work safely and follow established safety procedures
o Assures that established environmental procedures are followed and recordkeeping requirements and met other duties as assigned by the Facility Manager.
o Constantly monitors all rail and truck unloading operations to ensure safety and efficiency of operations
o Periodically inspects the elevator equipment, railroad tracks and general sanitary conditions of areas associated with railcar and truck unloading; assigns personnel to perform sanitary functions as needed
o Originates necessary work orders for equipment maintenance personnel
o Working to ensure safety, health, and environmental procedures comply with company policy

Successful candidates will possess at least 7 years leadership experience in a grain elevator or industrial setting. Preferred candidates will have 5 years supervisory experience in a food processing, or seed/grain handling facility.
Good knowledge of safety requirements in manufacturing environments with a preference for knowledge of safe rail operations

Qualified candidates will possess at least a High School diploma or equivalency, A preference for a bachelor’s degree in the areas of Agriculture, chemical engineering, or logistics is desired.
