Overview

History- Louis Dreyfus has merchandised and traded bulk agricultural commodities in international markets since 1851. Louis Dreyfus conducts its merchandising and trading activities through various affiliates in cities around the world.

Principal activities- The business of LD is worldwide processing, trading and merchandising of various agricultural and energy commodities. As well, the organization manages ocean vessels, develops and operates telecommunications infrastructures and real estate development, management and ownership. Presence- The LD group is present in over 53 countries, with major offices in Beijing, Buenos Aires, London, Paris, São Paulo, Singapore, Geneva, Calgary, Wilton (Connecticut) and Memphis (Tennessee). Aggregate average annual gross sales in recent years have exceeded $20 billion.

Grains and Oilseeds

Merchandising- Louis Dreyfus is consistently ranked as one of the world's largest merchandisers of grains and oilseeds every year. Products traded today include corn, barley, rice, wheat, sorghum, soybeans, canola, sunflower and oilseed products.

Strategic assets- The Group owns or operates many strategic assets around the world to conduct its global trading and merchandising activities. Louis Dreyfus operates large export elevators in the United States (Oregon, Washington and Texas) and Canada (Quebec). It also owns elevators along the Illinois River and has built a series of new high-speed elevators in the Canadian interior that serve as origination facilities to support export operations.

 

 

Canadian operations began in 1941 and Louis Dreyfus continues to be a major worldwide exporter and marketer of Canadian grains and oilseeds.

Louis Dreyfus Canada has built a prairie-wide Canadian elevator network. Currently the organization operates 10 high throughput elevators in Western Canada.

For the past five years LDC has managed identity preserved specialty canola varieties. These programs bring direct value to the producer by paying for oil yield and quality. The Yorkton crush facility will allow for the expansion of these programs and continue to provide additional value to the producers.
